Dr. Boustani's story
My father Dr. Ahmad Boustani was simply an amazing soul with the biggest heart in the world. He was the first dentist in my home town of Quamishly, Syria. He worked hard to provide the highest education opportunities to his kids and allow us to pursue our passion throughout the world.
He had an infection in his heart (Most likely myocardium infection from COVID) in April 2020 where he developed delirium superimposed on unrecognized dementia. Can you imaging, I missed my father diagnosis of dementia for at least 5 years!! I have been working on the early detection of dementia for more than two decades!!! He survived delirium and lived with mixed Alzheimer Disease and Vascular Dementia until the end of his life where he suffered from Major stroke and Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome. Sadly, he passed in June 2024.
We were lucky and blessed that he was living the moment free from suffering even in the the past 24 hours. With the support from his amazing wife, my Mother, he was able to live in his house, his community, his country to the last day. WHAT A BLESSING!!!!! We were able to optimize his quality of life and his dignity until the end. We were very lucky to do so. He has been the reason for my journey of transforming brain care for all, for better, NOW! With advances in accessible and scalable technology (WhatsApp) we were able to provide him with the best evidence-based comprehensive dementia care services even though he lived in Syria.
I will continue carrying on his legacy and selfless mission to serve families living with dementia. I'm sharing this detailed information about my Father's brain care journey so other families across the world learn about the interaction of delirium and dementia and about the comprehensive dementia care model where we can optimize the Quality of life and community living for families living with dementia.
My Father was a giant! His smile was amazing! His mastery of the Arabic language was simply second to none. He raised two independent daughters, two sons, and six grandchildren! In his memory, please join me and fight for brain health and access to evidence-based dementia care across the world!!! Together we will overcome the stigma of Alzheimer disease and dementia.
