Macomb County is full of families doing quiet, unpaid caregiving: an adult son stopping by his mom’s ranch house on Hoover every morning before his shift, a daughter in Sterling Heights managing her dad’s medications from two exits away. Michigan’s Medicaid Home Help program pays family caregivers $17.13 per hour in 2026 for that work — and Mozyne Health, based ten minutes away in Southfield, guides Macomb families through enrollment in about 60 days.

Your application runs through Macomb County adult services: once your loved one’s Medicaid is confirmed, a county caseworker assesses their needs at home — in Warren, Sterling Heights, Roseville, Eastpointe, Clinton Township, or anywhere in the county — and authorizes your weekly paid hours. The rate is statewide; the hours are set at that kitchen-table assessment, and preparing for it well is the highest-leverage hour you’ll spend in the whole process.
Your loved one needs Medicaid Fee for Service and hands-on help with at least one daily activity — bathing, dressing, eating, toileting, transferring, or moving around the house. Macomb’s postwar ranches and bungalows were built for young families, not walkers and wheelchairs, and “helps her get safely to the bathroom” is exactly the kind of need the assessment counts. Caregivers must be 18+, pass a background check, and enroll in CHAMPS. Spouses can’t be paid under Home Help (what spouses can do instead); adult children, grandchildren, siblings, and friends can.

If your parent is coming home from Ascension Macomb-Oakland, McLaren Macomb, or a Henry Ford stay and the discharge plan leans on family for daily care, Home Help converts those family hours into paid hours. Start the eligibility check before discharge when you can — Medicaid confirmation and the county assessment take weeks, and the gap between “home from the hospital” and “first paid week” is where families burn out.
We’re local — Southfield, not a national call center — and payment is only half the model.
