The Home Help program was written into Michigan policy a few blocks from where you live — and yet most Lansing families caring for a parent or relative have never heard that the state will pay them for it. Through this MDHHS-run Medicaid benefit, family caregivers earn $17.13 per hour in 2026 for the bathing, dressing, meal prep, and mobility help they’re already providing. Mozyne Health guides mid-Michigan families through enrollment in about 60 days.

Greater Lansing spans three counties — Ingham, Eaton, and Clinton — and your application runs through the adult services office for whichever county your loved one lives in (Lansing itself sits mostly in Ingham, with slices in both others; East Lansing, Holt, Okemos, Grand Ledge, and DeWitt each route to their county). The caseworker’s in-home assessment sets your approved weekly hours; the hourly rate is the same statewide. We make sure the assessment reflects your loved one’s real day-to-day needs.

Your loved one needs Medicaid Fee for Service and hands-on help with at least one activity of daily living. You must be 18+, pass a background check, and enroll in CHAMPS. Spouses can’t be paid under Home Help — a rule that surprises many families (spouse alternatives here) — but adult children, siblings, grandchildren, and friends all can. State employees and university staff juggling shifts with caregiving: approved hours fit around a work schedule, and many caregivers keep their jobs.

If your parent is leaving UM Health-Sparrow or McLaren Greater Lansing after a fall, stroke, or surgery and the discharge plan assumes family will cover daily care, Home Help is how those hours become paid hours. Starting the eligibility check during the hospital stay is the single best way to shorten the gap between discharge and your first paid week.
Enrollment companies get you a paycheck and disappear. Mozyne caregivers get a dedicated 1:1 care coach, 24/7 AI coaching, peer support, and dementia-specialized training built on the research of co-founder Dr. Malaz Boustani — the kind of backup that’s been associated with far fewer ER visits and hospitalizations. Paid and supported is the whole point.
