In Flint, taking care of your own has never been optional — it’s how families here have always gotten through. If you’re helping a parent or grandparent with bathing, meals, medications, or getting around the house, Michigan’s Medicaid Home Help program pays family caregivers $17.13 per hour in 2026 for exactly that work. Mozyne Health guides Genesee County families through eligibility, paperwork, and enrollment in about 60 days.

Your case runs through Genesee County adult services: after your loved one’s Medicaid is confirmed, a county caseworker visits their home — in Flint, Burton, Flushing, Grand Blanc, or anywhere in the county — and assesses how much hands-on help they need. That assessment sets your paid weekly hours. The hourly rate is fixed statewide; the assessment is where preparation pays off, and it’s the step we coach families through most carefully.
The full process, start to finish.
Two sides must qualify. Your loved one needs Medicaid Fee for Service and hands-on help with at least one daily activity. You need to be 18+, pass a background check, and enroll in CHAMPS. Adult children, grandchildren, siblings, and friends are all eligible caregivers; spouses are not under this program (spouse options here).
Because Home Help is tied to Medicaid, many Flint families are closer to qualifying than they think — if your loved one’s income is modest and they’re already on or near Medicaid, the eligibility check takes minutes. Full criteria.
Falls, strokes, and COPD flare-ups are how most Genesee County families discover they’ve become caregivers. If your loved one is being discharged from Hurley Medical Center, McLaren Flint, or Ascension Genesys and the plan assumes family will provide daily help, Home Help is the program that pays for those hours. Start the check before discharge if possible — Medicaid confirmation and the county assessment take weeks.
We’re Michigan-based, and payment is only half of what we provide. After enrollment, you get a dedicated 1:1 care coach, 24/7 AI coaching, a peer community of Michigan caregivers, and crisis planning — support associated with dramatically fewer ER visits and hospitalizations in the clinical research our program is built on. Caregiving in Flint is real work. It should come with real pay and real backup.
You’re already doing the work. Find out if Michigan will pay you for it.
