If you’re caring for a parent, grandparent, or relative in Detroit — cooking their meals, helping them bathe and dress, getting them safely up the stairs of a home they’ve lived in for forty years — Michigan’s Medicaid Home Help program can pay you $17.13 per hour for that work in 2026. Mozyne Health, based right here in Metro Detroit (Southfield), guides Wayne County families through the whole process in about 60 days.

Home Help is administered statewide by MDHHS, but your case runs through Wayne County adult services — a county caseworker schedules the in-home assessment that determines how many paid hours per week your family is approved for. Wayne County is the state’s largest county and its offices carry the state’s largest caseload, which makes complete, well-prepared applications matter even more: incomplete paperwork here doesn’t get a friendly phone call, it gets a delay.
That’s the core of what we do — prepare the application and the assessment so it moves through the first time. See every step of the process.
The rules are the same across Michigan: your loved one needs Medicaid Fee for Service and hands-on help with at least one daily activity (bathing, dressing, eating, toileting, transferring, mobility). You need to be 18+, pass a background check, and enroll in CHAMPS — and you can’t be their spouse. Adult children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces and nephews, and friends all qualify, which fits how care actually happens in Detroit’s multigenerational households, where an adult daughter or a grandson down the block is often already the caregiver.

Many Detroit families first hear about paid caregiving during a discharge — from Henry Ford, the DMC, Ascension St. John, or a rehab stay after a fall. If a discharge planner told you your loved one “needs someone at home,” Home Help is often how that someone gets paid. Start the eligibility check before discharge if you can; the Medicaid and assessment steps take weeks, not days.
We’re a Michigan company, not a 50-state call center. Payment is half of what we do — after enrollment, you get a dedicated 1:1 care coach, 24/7 AI coaching, peer support, and dementia-specialized training built on the research of our co-founder Dr. Malaz Boustani. Caring for someone with memory loss in a two-story Detroit house is hard; you shouldn’t do it unpaid or unsupported.
You’re already doing the work. Find out if Michigan will pay you for it.
