How It Works: From First Call to First Paycheck

Getting paid through Michigan’s Home Help program involves the state, the county, Medicaid, and a provider enrollment system — which is exactly why most families stall out doing it alone. Here’s the whole process, what each step actually requires, and what Mozyne does at every stage. Most families who work with us are enrolled in about 60 days.

Step 1 — Free Eligibility Check (Day 1)

Answer a few questions online or by phone: who you’re caring for, what kind of help they need day to day, and their insurance situation. No paperwork, no commitment. We’ll tell you honestly whether Home Help fits — and if it doesn’t, whether another Michigan program (like the MI Choice waiver) might.

What we’re checking: Medicaid status, hands-on help with at least one Activity of Daily Living, and that the caregiver is eligible (18+, not a spouse or parent of a minor). Full eligibility criteria.

Step 2 — Medicaid Confirmation (Weeks 1–3)

Home Help requires Medicaid Fee for Service. If your loved one already has it, this step is quick. If they’re on the Healthy Michigan Plan or not enrolled at all, we help you understand the income and asset requirements and get the right application filed — this is the single most common place families get stuck on their own. Step 3 — The In-Home Assessment (Weeks 3–6)

An MDHHS adult services worker visits your loved one at home and evaluates how much help they need with daily activities — bathing, dressing, eating, transferring, toileting, mobility. That assessment determines the number of paid hours per week you’ll be authorized for. We prepare you for the visit so the assessment reflects your loved one’s real needs, not their best five minutes.

Step 4 — Caregiver Enrollment (Weeks 4–7, runs in parallel)

While the assessment is in motion, you complete your side: a criminal background check and registration in CHAMPS, Michigan’s Medicaid provider system. Step 5 — Start Getting Paid (Week 7–9)

Step 6 — Ongoing Support (Forever)
